this video was such a joy :) i love your pepper painting! happy pride month 🏳️‍⚧️🩷🏳️‍🌈 as someone who is also non-binary who had a larger chest (i’ve had top surgery and i’m content but it’s so important to note that this is not the only way to be non-binary and thank you for doing such) it’s always nice to hear gender testimony from larger chested people. also i loved seeing that you still mask! i often feel alienated for still masking so its nice to know i’m not alone. take care!

I've been feeling lonely and exluded recently so I've been watching videos like this. Thank you for sharing your thoughts 🧡 I don't think I have ever experienced a true, deep and meaningful friendship outside of my current relationship. I might have too high standards for people in my life, or think too low of myself, or just never met the right people. I've definitely had occasions to connect with people at times, but always had my defenses up. At school I befriended people just to have someone, not because I actually wanted to be their friend. I used to have a childhood friend who I liked to hang out with, but because of depression I cut ties with her. She just left and didn't look back. Over the years I had chances to reconnect with her, but I never took those because I wasn't ready. Finally quite recently I apologized to her through a message and asked if she wanted to reconnect, but she rejected me in a way, and left things hanging open. I instantly deleted her contacts and wanted to forget about her. But the lack of explanation and feeling of rejection haunts me. I feel too prideful to ask. I know I should move on and let new people in my life instead. The only friend I have currently is by strange circumstances. I used to have a crush on one person, and decided to reach out to him after years of not seeing him. I ended up having sex with him in the beginning but also became friends with him at the same time. I felt very grateful for getting that experience because it taught me what it can be like to have a friendship after all these years. But the friendship lacks emotional depth and willingness to be open and vulnerable, which I crave for. I wish to find a deeper connection with people. So here's my rant 😁. I think I should start journaling to make sense of this mess in my head.

I'm really looking forward to checking out Homie and Borealis now! Thanks for sharing these recent favourite reads. I really enjoyed Tiny Moons: A Year of Eating in Shanghai by Nina Mingya Powles. The way Powles effortlessly pivoted between the interconnections of food, cultural identity, memory and belonging was wonderful. Honourable mentions go to Oculus by Sally Wen Mao, which was a nuanced poetry collection about identity in the digital age and how different mediums can distort our sense of self and history, and Field Guide to the Haunted Forest by Jarod K. Anderson a.k.a. the Cryptonaturalist. Anderson's collection is one of both meditations and poems on nature and mental health.

I currently am reading Enemy of All Mankind and while it isn't as great as I expected it to be it has brought up other topics in it I want to expand reading into. But a lot of your favorite were on my TBR before thos video and now the few that weren't have definitely expanded my TBR! Those last two essay books read like poetry, I can see why you like em😊

Hey Nicole, one of my styles is I write everything lowercase, I never use caps. Can I write my manuscript like that or should I use proper grammar before submitting to publishers?

the cover of your second book is so incredibly beautiful. even though i haven’t read it, just by looking at it i know what it’ll feel like. i think i’m going to pick that one up, especially hearing about the contents!

haha - as a baby poet myself, and someone who follows a spiritual path in life that differs greatly from the norm, I am super scared that by the time I end up wanting to take my book to a local publisher, they simply wont want to publish it in fear of how certain groups may come after them for it..and for the record given the history of how people who follow my spirituality were treated in history, I wouldn't blame them.. most if not all of my poems are about and related to my spirituality which again is not mainstream. The thing is, I'm not in it for the money either, I simply want people to be able to read and love my poems even if they can't relate to them personally. I also worry that my poems are too same-y or rhyme-y for people, since I am writing free-verse couplets the format is pretty much "aa-bb- repeat".
